Persian Dance Workshop Basics & Fun Kereshmeh Choreography - VHS Penzing

Join me for a vibrant and joyful workshop where we’ll dive into the enchanting world of Persian dance! Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or completely new to this art form, this session is perfect for starting the year with elegance, movement, and a touch of lightness.

What to Expect:

🌷 Learn the Basics: We’ll cover some foundational Persian dance steps, focusing on graceful arm movements and expressive hand gestures that embody the elegance of this classical art.

💃 Choreography: Add some playful “gher” (coquettishness) to your repertoire as we will experiment with a short Kereshmeh choreography, blending tradition with festive flair. Kereshmeh is a way of dancing born during the Qajar time (18th-19th century) and slowly became a refined style where mimicry, dance, and skillful acting blended together. We will keep it fun and easy!

🎶 Cultural Insights: Along the way, discover the cultural significance of Persian dance and how it connects to storytelling and celebration.

Baba Karam. A Humorous Street Dance from Tehran

From the streets of Tehran, a fun and popular dance which fuses together humor and what Iranians call "gher" (a very distinctive movement of the hips). This dance was done primarily by men, but since the '70s a lot of women performed it (sometimes dressed up us men), following the steps of famous cabaret dancers of that time, such as Jamileh. So bring a small scarf and/or a fedora hat and let your gher go wild!
