Join me for a vibrant and joyful workshop where we’ll dive into the enchanting world of Persian dance! Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or completely new to this art form, this session is perfect for starting the year with elegance, movement, and a touch of lightness.
What to Expect:
🌷 Learn the Basics: We’ll cover some foundational Persian dance steps, focusing on graceful arm movements and expressive hand gestures that embody the elegance of this classical art.
💃 Choreography: Add some playful “gher” (coquettishness) to your repertoire as we will experiment with a short Kereshmeh choreography, blending tradition with festive flair. Kereshmeh is a way of dancing born during the Qajar time (18th-19th century) and slowly became a refined style where mimicry, dance, and skillful acting blended together. We will keep it fun and easy!

Sarmast. A Classical Persian Dance About Wine
Do you know that Persians used to produce very fine wine? No wonders it became a poetic metaphor for love and union. In this workshop we will dance to a fast-paced but easy choreography to a classical Chaharmezrab, inspired by the theme of wine and cup-bearers.
A Dance For Yalda
Shab-e Yalda is the longest night of the year which corresponds to the Winter Solstice. It is a very important occasion for Iranians to gather and celebrate together. We will learn about this very important festival, about its origins and traditions, and then we will learn a heart-warming choreography for the cold season.
Baba Karam. A Humorous Street Dance from Tehran
From the streets of Tehran, a fun and popular dance which fuses together humor and what Iranians call "gher" (a very distinctive movement of the hips). This dance was done primarily by men, but since the '70s a lot of women performed it (sometimes dressed up us men), following the steps of famous cabaret dancers of that time, such as Jamileh. So bring a small scarf and/or a fedora hat and let your gher go wild!
Aha Bogu! North Iranian Dance Workshop
We will learn a lively and fun choreography to a traditional song from the region of Gilan. Gilaki dance is one of the many folk dances of Northern Iran famous for its hips movements and the mimicking of movements done by workers in the rice fields.
Classical Persian Dance Workshop - Vienna
If you are in Vienna, don't miss this workshop entirely dedicated to the art of Classical Persian Dance. This flowing and elegant dance is inspired by Persian miniatures, art, poetry and architecture. In the first part we will explore together the basic steps, body lines, arm and hand movements, and basic combinations. In the second part we will put all these together in a small choreography inspired by the energies of Norouz, the Persian New Year and Spring Festival.
